[re-tweet post] Who Do You Think Will / Deserve To Win?

Ahah! this is posting from my friend blog, Jen. This conversation on twitter and she make me smile all the time with this post! ahaha.. wanna know it? read this!

I was actually going to respond to a DM from a friend but due to word limitation in Twitter, and since I have lots to say, I reckon it is best just to write an entry about the matter in discussion. LOL.
So you see, this friend wants me to give my opinion on “Who do you think will / deserve to win?” a particular contest that has been going on for several months now. It’s almost at the end of the contest period. Contestants are still given time to buy some votes, judges are also well, making judgement.
Problem is, THE question is asked by the organizer. In other words, the people who will be judging the contest. You see, I don’t understand why is it important to ask questions like “Who do you think will/deserve to win?” UNLESS because the judges are undecided, have no confidence with their judgement and/or afraid of making the wrong decisions.
My opinion? Well questions like that can actually result in a bias and fabricated judgement. So example if judges were deciding the grand prize winner between contestant X and Y. When THE question is thrown to the public, 3 out of 5 people who voiced out their opinion disclosed that contestant X should win the contest.
Judges saw this, and like it or not (no matter how far you try to convince me that you are unbias), in favor of the public, contestant X might win the grand prize. The logic here is, judges are afraid of making the wrong decisions. Public opinion will only strengthen their decision because they have little confidence in making their final verdict. If they have chosen contestant Y, judges are afraid that their decision will be questioned.
Now let’s say, again, the judges were deciding the grand prize winner between contestant X and Y. Public opinion showed that they preferred contestant Z instead. What do you think will happen next?
Judges will somehow re-evaluate their decision, again, in favor of the public, contestant Z gets a chance in their final verdict. Contestant Z may not win, but because the contestant was in favor among the public, judges will consider. Now do you agree this is fabricated?
But what happens when every single person in discussion group says that every contestant has an equal chance of winning and they did not mention names whether X, Y or Z?
Well then THE question becomes insignificant.
No wait. IT IS INSIGNIFICANT and should not be asked in the first place.
Sorry Eyriqazz, I am not a fan of questions like that because it is bias and the end result may be fabricated, so I won’t be giving my opinion on who should/deserve/will win. It is too early to raise questions as such because the contest period is not over yet. And it’s good that you maintained your stands where everyone deserves an equal chance to win. That way, if judges were having a headache deciding, they will continue having a headache. If the public narrows it down to names, judging will become easier on their end but not necessarily fair to all contestants.
Gawd I can’t believe I dedicated a blog post to this!
p.s.It should be understood that name of the referred contest or organizer is irrelevant because this opinion is relevant for every other contest.
